Family Fun Day
Portland Community Venue officially opens its doors with a Family Fun Day
Saturday 30th March 2019
Portland Community Venue officially opened its doors on Saturday 30th March with a Family Fun Day. Islanders were invited to have a look at the impressive new facilities which provide a home to Portland Town Council, Allsorts preschool and the Drop In Youth Service.
The venue was opened by Cllr Rebecca Knox and the children of Allsorts, with the Mayor of Portland Cllr Charlie Flack on hand to present them with flowers.
Visitors on the day brought the sunshine with them and were treated to displays from the Platinum Dance Group, the Second Edition Portland Majorettes and the Dorset Wrecks.
Cllr Rebecca Knox said "It's great that the building is now open and working. Masses of people are here today and enjoying it. To come and officially open it today has been fantastic."
"From what I've seen of the facilities here, the young people are really going to benefit - the nursery with its baby unit and so much space for toddlers, but really importantly - the health and wellbeing of young people on the island as there is a special place here where they can come and have a private conversation and get the assistance they need in lovely informal surroundings."
Mayor of Portland Cllr Charlie Flack said "It's a fantastic facility for the whole of the island to use, made possible with money from the LEADER grant (Southern Dorset LAG). We're really excited about the future prospects of the building for the community."
